Casita Alegre

Beautiful Jungle Hideaway just a three minute walk to the Caribbean Ocean in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, Limon, Costa Rica

The casita was built with comfort in mind.  There is a large porch, a queen size bed with a pillow top mattress, and a kitchenette with utensils, dishes, and pots and pans, refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, coffe pot and blender.  Also included is a 32" flat screen TV with access to Netflix through the high speed DSL internet connection.  A small safe in the casita can be used to store your valuable items. such as passports, cell phones, credit cards and tablets. or small laptops.   The ceiling is high and expansive and both the porch and the inside have large 52 inch fans that keep the air moving and the areas cool.  Air conditioning is not needed!  In addition Two bikes are available for our guests to use to travel around the area.
Within 15 minutes of Casita Alegre, there are two wildlife centers.   The Jaguar Rescue Center rehabilitates animals of all kinds from snakes to monkeys to caiman as well as sloths and returns them to the wild when they are ready.   The ARA Project   outside of Manzanillo is a reintroduction station for the endangered Great Green Macaws located in a primary tropical rainforest at almost 100 m above sea level. The visitors are directed to the top of a hill with beautiful views of the ocean and the surrounding jungle.
In addition, there are waterfall excursions, ocean and river kayaking, hiking, fishing, surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, white water rafting, horseback riding, ziplining in the rainforest canopy or learning how chocolate is made during a tour of a local cacao plantation.
Some of the most beautiful beaches in the country are right here in the Puerto Viejo area and are within 15 minutes by car and 30 minutes by bike.  Punta Uva, Playa Cocles, Manzanilla, and Cahuita are often found on various top ten beaches in the country lists.
All of this brings you the kind of vacation that most people only dream about!

Jana and Tom Stotler are the owners of Casita Alegre and live on the property.  Jana was born and raised in Wyoming where she lived for 36 years before moving to Colorado..  Tom was born in Illinois but moved with his parents to Denver Colorado when he was young and has always considered Colorado his home - until moving to Puerto Viejo that is.  Tom lived in São Paulo, Brazil for four years where he attended high school.  He is fluent in English and Spanish and can converse in Portugese.  Jana is fluent in English and trying very hard to learn Spanish.

After visiting different parts of Costa Rica over a ten year period, in  May of 2009 we came to Puerto Viejo to see how we liked it and to check out home prices.  One week later we left after finding,  falling in love with, and purchasing our dream home.  Initially we had intended to move to Puerto Viejo five years down the road but within six months decided life was too short and began to plan the move for the fall of 2010 - just a little over one year after purchasing our home.  On August 13th,  2010 we arrived in Puerto Viejo with nine duffle bags, two husky dogs, and two very tired friends who helped with the move.  Everything else that we had owned in the U.S. had been sold, given away, or donated to charity.  This was truly a new beginning.  Each day we still pinch ourselves that this is our life - this fabulous, exciting, non-stressful existence that brings new adventures every day.
